Hampshire is a ceremonial county in South East England. It is bordered by Berkshire to the north, Surrey and West Sussex to the east, the Isle of Wight across the Solent to the south, Dorset to the west, and Wiltshire to the north-west. It has easy access into London.
The county has an area of 3,769 km2 (1,455 sq mi) and a population of 1,844,245, making it the 5th-most populous in England. For local government purposes Hampshire comprises the County Council, with eleven districts, and two unitary authority areas: Portsmouth and Southampton. Hampshire also has two national park authorities – the South Downs and New Forest.
Undulating hills characterise much of the county. A belt of chalk crosses the county from north-west, where it forms the Hampshire Downs, to south-east, where it is part of the South Downs. The county's major rivers rise in these hills; the Loddon and Wey drain north, into the Thames, and the Itchen and Test flow south into Southampton Water, a large estuary. In the south-east are Portsmouth Harbour, Langstone Harbour, and the western edge of Chichester Harbour, three large rias. The south-west contains the New Forest, which includes pasture, heath, and forest and is of the largest expanses of ancient woodland remaining in England.
The County Councils’ main offices are located in the city of Winchester. The city lies at the heart of the wider City of Winchester district, at the western end of the South Downs National Park, on the River Itchen. It is 60 miles (97 km) south-west of London and 14 miles (23 km) from Southampton, its nearest city. Winchester is the county town of Hampshire and is full of history. The city's major landmark is Winchester Cathedral. The city is also home to the University of Winchester and Winchester College, the oldest public school in the United Kingdom still using its original buildings.

We also process and determine the County Council’s own developments. Our ambition is to provide efficient, high quality and responsive services that meet the needs of our residents and businesses.
Minerals and waste planning is a fantastic and broad area of planning and one which our scholarship and graduates find fascinating. Its a broad area which draws in many fascinating disciplines'. The delivery of Regulation 3 development is also a really interesting area. The team has extensive experience of dealing with Environmental Impact Assessment developments due to the nature of the applications we deal with.
